Getting Started with the Bathroom

As you know, I recently have spent time organizing my kitchen area. The results are fantastic! (Be sure to read the previous posts about my experience! There are tons of great tips and recommendations for you!)

Now, I decided to turn my attention to the bathrooms! In this post, I list some big ideas to get you started. In my follow up posts, I’ll share specifics and recommendations.

As always, don’t feel intimidated! You got this! Small tasks = Big Differences!

Let’s get started!

A well-organized bathroom can make your daily routine smoother, more enjoyable, and even stress-free. Whether you have a spacious master bath or a compact half bath, the key to maintaining order (and lowering your stress) is using smart storage solutions and efficient organization techniques. Here are some practical ways to organize your bathroom for maximum efficiency.

1. Declutter and Categorize

Before implementing any organizational system, start by decluttering. Remove expired products, unused items, and duplicates. Categorize the remaining essentials into groups such as skincare, haircare, oral hygiene, and first-aid supplies. This will make it easier to assign designated spaces for each category.

2. Maximize Vertical Space

If counter and cabinet space is limited, think vertically! Install floating shelves above the toilet or next to the mirror for extra storage. Wall-mounted racks, tiered organizers, or over-the-door shelves can hold toiletries, towels, and other essentials while keeping them easily accessible.

Using vertical space effectively can help free up valuable counter space and create a more streamlined look.

3. Utilize Drawer Organizers

Bathroom drawers can quickly become chaotic. Use dividers or small bins to separate items like makeup, grooming tools, and toothbrushes. Clear acrylic organizers make it easy to see everything at a glance.

Adjustable dividers work well for drawers of different sizes, allowing you to customize the space according to your needs.

4. Incorporate Storage Baskets and Bins

Baskets and bins are great for keeping supplies neat and tidy. Use labeled bins under the sink for extra toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and backup toiletries. Wicker or fabric baskets can add a decorative touch while serving a functional purpose.

Consider using different-sized bins for various needs—smaller ones for makeup or grooming products and larger ones for towels or bulk items. Stackable bins are also a great option to make the most of limited storage space.

5. Optimize Under-Sink Storage

The area under the sink can easily become a black hole of clutter. Use stackable bins, pull-out drawers, or tension rods to create levels and compartments for better organization. Store frequently used items within easy reach and less-used products toward the back.

Adding a lazy Susan under the sink can also help with accessing items that would otherwise be difficult to reach. Additionally, using waterproof storage solutions will protect items from potential leaks or humidity damage.

6. Make Use of the Back of Cabinet Doors

Attach adhesive hooks or small racks to the inside of cabinet doors to store hair tools, cleaning products, or spare toiletries. This often-overlooked space can provide additional storage without taking up extra room.

Magnetic strips can also be used to hold small metallic items like tweezers and nail clippers.

7. Install a Shower Caddy or Corner Shelf

Avoid shower clutter by using a hanging caddy, suction shelves, or a corner shelf to store shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This prevents bottles from cluttering the bathtub edges and makes everything easily accessible.

Choose rust-resistant materials to ensure durability in a humid environment.

8. Use a Lazy Susan for Hard-to-Reach Items

A spinning lazy Susan can be a game-changer for deep bathroom cabinets. Store skincare products, hair sprays, or medications on it so you can quickly rotate and find what you need without digging through the back of the shelf.

This solution is particularly useful for corner cabinets or storage spaces that are deep and difficult to access.

9. Hang Hooks for Towels and Robes

Instead of taking up space with a traditional towel rack, install multiple hooks on the wall or behind the door for hanging towels and robes. This method allows for better air circulation and faster drying.

Consider using sturdy adhesive hooks if you want a no-drill option.

10. Label Everything

Labeling bins, jars, and drawers makes it easier to maintain an organized system and helps other household members find what they need. Chalkboard labels, sticker labels, or even a label maker can add a professional touch to your bathroom organization.

Using waterproof labels is a great idea, especially in areas prone to moisture.

A well-organized bathroom doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. By implementing these simple solutions, you can create a tidy, functional, and stylish space that enhances and streamlines your daily routine!
